Donuts are dear to us all, and why not? Donuts are scrumptious, sweet, soft and taste heavenly ….but at this time when outside food is forbidden…how to enjoy Donuts?? Well, I have a solution – Make them at home! Yes, I am sharing a recipe for Homemade Donuts in which you can even skip adding Yeast and Maida (All-Purpose Flour) and make it all with the regular Atta (Wheat Flour).

Donuts or Doughnuts originated somewhere around 1850s in New Amsterdam by an American, from then onwards they had been a favourite not only in America but wherever they travelled with the Americans. Large food chains brought the authentic donuts to most of the Indian cities as well and now they are something which we all crave to have anytime of the day, they are a favourite amongst sweet lovers as they are a good substitute to cakes and pastries if one wants to have a less sweet treat!

So without wasting a second let’s get started with the recipe for Homemade Donuts…

Preparation Time: 30 min

Cooking Time: 30 min

Serves 6 to 8 donuts

Tbsp = Table Spoon

Tsp = Tea Spoon

Ingredients:

Atta (Wheat Flour) – 1 Cup (If you want you can also use Maida (All-Purpose Flour)

Sugar – 4 tbsp

Curd – ¼ Cup

Milk – 3 to 4 tbsp

Baking Soda – ½ tsp

Baking Powder – ½ tbsp

Salt – 1 pinch

Ghee/Oil for deep frying

For Garnishing – Sprinkles, Chocolate Sauce, Melted White Chocolate or Whipped Cream (Your Choice)

Method:

Take a bowl and add Atta, Sugar, Salt, Baking powder, Baking soda. Mix these dry ingredients uniformly and add curd. Knead the dough with curd and when it feels hard keep adding milk with spoon till you get a soft dough.

Now keep this dough aside for 20 min.

After 20 min, divide the dough into 2 equal portions, roll one of the portions using the rolling pin (belan), put loose flour if required. Make round shapes which are thick enough (about 25mm), use 2 round shaped cutters or even if you don’t have cutters you can use normal bottle or jar caps easily available at home. You can use one medium and one small cap or cutter to cut the rolled dough into donut shapes. (Refer to the images)

Once all the donuts are cut into shape, keep a frying pan over medium flame, add ghee or oil of your choice for deep frying. Fry 2-3 donuts at a time, until they turn golden brown in colour, take them out on a tissue paper so that excess oil is absorbed.

Use Chocolate sauce, melted white chocolate or whipped cream to dip the donuts from one side followed by hint of sprinkles at the end to decorate your Homemade Donuts and serve them with love!
