Want to have appam for breakfast but do not have any batter for it?? Don’t worry you can still make the appam fresh and quick!! I am sharing an Instant Suji Poha Appam recipe from a famous food blogger, which I have tried myself and it came out amazingly tasty!!
The super scrumptious Instant Suji Poha Appam would be incomplete without the signature Coconut Chatni…don’t you worry I am sharing the recipe for Chatni as well. The awesome part is that the appams do not use oil for getting cooked…so hurray!!
- Preparation Time: 15 min
- Cooking Time: 15 min
- Serves 6 to 8 appams
- Tbsp = Table Spoon
- Tsp = Tea Spoon
Suji (Semolina) – 1 Cup
Poha (Flattened Rice) – 1 Cup
Dahi (Curd) – 1 ½ cup
Sugar – 1 tbsp
Salt – 1 ½ tbsp
Baking Soda – 1 tbsp
Water – Approx. 2 Cups
Nariyal (Coconut) – ½ Cup, grated
Adrak (Ginger) – 1 tbsp, paste
Hari Mirch (Green Chillies) – 1
Sarso (Mustard Seeds) – ½ tsp
Lal Mirch Dried (Dried Red Chillies) – 1
Moongfali (Groundnut) – ¼ cup, raw
Meethi Neem Patta (Curry Leaves) – 4 to 5
Oil – 1 tsp
For Appam Batter:
Firstly, take a grinding jar and add suji and poha into it and grind into a fine powder. Now, take this mix into a large bowl and add 1 cup curd and 1 cup water and whisk nicely till no limps are seen. Add water as per need and while whisking add 1 tbsp salt and 1 tbsp sugar. Next, add about 3/4 cup of water more, mix and add baking soda, keep whisking slowly till bubbles can be seen rising. Your batter is ready to go on the Dosa Tawa.
Put a dosa tawa(or if you have, use an appam patra) over a medium flame, when the tawa is sufficiently hot, sprinkle some drops of water and rinse them off with a clean cloth. Now, pour about 2 tbsp of batter on the tawa and do not spread it, let it be cooked over slow flame, till it’s colour is a bit changed and holes are seen in it. No need to flip it, just take it on the plate directly.
Repeat the same process, starting from sprinkling water on the tawa for the rest of the batter, you can change the size of the appam according to your wish and take the batter accordingly.
Your Instant Suji Poha Appam is ready, keep the Chatni ready till more appams are getting cooked.
For the Chatni:
Take a small grinding jar and add moongfali, coconut, ginger paste, green chillies and about ½ cup of water and grind.
Empty the contents into a bowl. Now, for the Tadka – put a large serving spoon over a medium flame and add 1 tsp oil into it, when the oil is hot add – curry leaves, red chilli( broken into 2 pieces) and mustard seeds. When the mustard seeds start to spatter add this tadka to your chatni and mix.
Add ½ tbsp salt and mix everything together.
Your Instant Suji Poha Appam is ready to be served with Chatni and Love!!
