Moong Dal or (Green Gram) is a protein packed everyday sprout which is already a part of our breakfast routines. But having it as a sprout every time can sometimes be repetitive and boring…to avoid this I have come up with a new recipe – Moong Dal Chila (Green Gram pancakes) for you that is healthy, simple and tasty as well!
You can make Moong Dal Chila with the normal kitchen ingredients, it is perfect for the days when you want to have something healthy but you do not want it to be boring and plain!
So let’s begin with the recipe…
- Preparation Time: 10 min
- Cooking Time: 15 min
- Serves 4-5 Green Moong Chila
- Tbsp = Table Spoon
- Tsp = Tea Spoon
Green Moong Dal (Green Gram) – 1 cup, soaked overnight (If it is sprouted then great!)
Dahi (Curd) – ½ cup
Besan (Gram Flour) – 2 tbsp
Lal Mirch Powder (Red Chilli Powder) – ¼ tsp
Dhaniya Powder (Coriander Powder) – ½ tsp
Jeera (Cumin) – 1 tsp
Salt – 1 tbsp
Oil – few drops, for greasing the tawa
Take the moong dal in a grinder jar and make a coarse paste by adding ½ cup of water or as required. Once done with the grinding of moong dal, take it out in a bowl and add besan, dahi, salt, lal mirch powder, dhaniya powder, jeera, give everything a good mix, add ½ cup of water if the batter appears to be too thick.
The consistency of the batter doesn’t has to be too runny or too thick, it should be of pouring consistency.
Once the batter is ready, put a dosa tawa or any other non-stick tawa over the medium flame. After this add a few drops of oil when the tawa is hot, put the batter at the centre of the tawa. Now, spread it a little bit with the help of your spatula to give it a round shape.
Note: The chila doesn’t has to be very thin.
Cover the tawa with a lid for a min and then flip the chila to cook on the other side. When light brown spots appear on the chila it has been cooked and should be removed from the tawa.
Repeat the same process for all the Green Moong Dal Chila….they are ready to be served hot with your choice of chutney!
